English Heritage update on Okehampton Castle

Response to Okehampton Hamlets following the public meeting in July:

Our team are still working towards getting the castle open much more frequently, as we discussed at the meeting, and we are actively recruiting volunteers for this role to assist with that. Please feel free to forward this on to anyone who might be interested in assisting with opening and closing the gate to the castle and doing a basic site check on a regular basis.

We hope to be able to have more regular opening of the castle following the last scheduled guided tour days for the year on the 18th / 19th October, but cannot confirm this publicly until we have all our ducks in a row.

I’ve been unable to procure you any more detailed historic operating stats (visitor numbers, income and expenditure, etc) for the Castle and am still pushing for this info, not least because it would be very helpful for my team who are now managing the site!

Best wishes
